Funding helps residents come together to celebrate Eid

Residents celebrated the end of Eid with a community event in Hillfields, thanks to funding from Whitefriars Housing.

Young and older residents attended the event at The WATCH centre, Victoria Street, to mark Eid ul’Adha, the completion of the Haj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca which celebrates important events in the life of the Prophet Abraham.

Whitefriars Housing is working with members of Coventry’s first Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) resident group, called City Tenants Support Association (CITSAN), which has been set up by the new communities in the city for people to seek advice and support.

The group organised the Eid celebration at The WATCH centre on Sunday, November 6, with funding from Whitefriars Housing.

The event was also an opportunity for BAME residents to meet with Whitefriars’ community cohesion and engagement officer Ravinder Kaur to discuss any issues and access any support or advice they may need.

Ravinder said: “Whitefriars staff were pleased to be able to help residents hold events to celebrate Eid and the WATCH Centre event was well attended by people of all ages.

“It provided a great opportunity for residents to come together, celebrate their culture and meet with other people. Many of the people attending were pleased to have the opportunity to talk with me and find out about other services and support available to them.

“The CITSAN groups gives people, who might not be used to having their voices heard, the chance to come together and share their experiences.”
