Building Surveyor Wesley Belle has won two awards at the Midlands G4C Constructing Excellence Awards.
Wesley was awarded Young Trainee of the Year – where he beat seven other people to the title – and was also presented with a special award on the night – Young Achiever of the Year.
Finalists for the Young Achiever Award were announced at the ceremony because it was made up of winners from the other categories.
Wesley started working for WM Housing Group as a Tenant Liaison Officer in 2013 and realised he wanted to become a building surveyor while working on a regeneration project in Woodend, Coventry, and he pestered his manager to allow him to retrain. He started as a Trainee Building Surveyor for the organisation in 2015.
The nearest master’s course in building surveying was at Nottingham Trent University and Wesley used up some of his annual leave to attend lectures and exams – often getting home at midnight and then working full time for the rest of the week.
Wesley was unable to attend the award ceremony, held at Birmingham’s ICC on Friday, April 12, because he was on annual leave but his award was collected by colleague and Building Surveyor Kaz Rai.
Wesley says: “I am thrilled to have won twice at the Midlands G4C Constructing Excellence Awards.
“It was an amazing feeling to have won the Young Trainee of the Year award and winning the Young Achiever of the Year award made it even more special!
“It’s great that the hard work has paid off.”
Kaz adds: “We’re so proud of Wesley for what he has achieved and these two awards recognise all the effort he has put in so far.
“It was great to go to the awards ceremony and collect the trophies on Wesley’s behalf.
“Being named Young Achiever of the Year is a great accolade and I am thrilled he has been acknowledged!”
After completing his degree, Wesley was awarded a distinction and was given an extra award for the Most Outstanding Performance on the MSc Building Surveying degree from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Congratulations on your wins Wesley!
