The completion of ten affordable homes at the Brickfields estate in Warndon, Worcester was marked by a special opening ceremony on Tuesday 10th February.
Residents joined the Mayor of Worcester, board members and staff from Nexus Housing to mark the completion of the development.
New resident, Gemma Pezzini, moved into a two bedroom house on the development in December, with her partner Jamie Newton and 8-year-old son Kian. She said: ‘Our new home is brilliant. It has so much space and a garden which we didn’t have before. We’ve been wanting to move for the past seven years, as we lived in a small flat, so this move has given us a fantastic opportunity. It’s a lovely area, I feel safe and as we haven’t moved far my son has been able to stay at the same school.’
Funded by West Mercia Homes and the HCA’s Affordable Homes Guaranteed Programme, the development of six flats and four houses is the latest phase to be added to the £13.5m scheme of 126 properties which was completed in 2008.
Building started in March 2014 by Harper’s Construction Ltd, took nine months to complete and have made a great addition to the original scheme of owner occupiers, shared ownership and rented properties.
All ten properties are now occupied on an affordable rent basis and are being managed by Nexus Housing.
Mayor of Worcester, Alan Amos, formerly opened the development, said: ‘This is an extremely high quality development fulfilling a great need for more affordable housing in Warndon. It was particularly nice to see, as new residents there, Jamie and Gemma, whom I helped with their housing needs several months ago.’
