WM Housing Group is supporting Community Impact Week November with highlights on how we add social value to the work that we do and the positive impact this brings to our customers and local community.
Community Impact Week, organised by the National Housing Federation (NHF), is an opportunity for housing associations to celebrate the achievements of neighbourhood investment projects run across the country.
We will be bring real life stories to you on some of the work we have done across the West Midlands, Herefordshire and Worcestershire to help people find work, gain life-changing skills, reduce fuel bills, breathe new life into areas and refresh public spaces.
To kick-start the week we give you the story of our work with Hereward College.
We first started working with Hereward College in September 2016 when we provided three internship opportunities to students with a range of disabilities including autism and learning difficulties.
Supported internships are aimed at young people (aged 16 to 24) who have an education, health and care plan and need extra support to move into employment.
The programme was a great success and as a direct result one of the interns, Luke Elson, managed to secure a permanent job with our CleanWorks team in May.
Clive Rose, CleanWorks supervisor at Whitefriars Housing said: “It has been a pleasure working with Luke and we’re thrilled he is now a permanent member of the team. All the interns were very shy to start with so we have enjoyed watching their confidence grow over the months.”
