A young Whitefriars Housing employee has reached the finals of the City of Coventry Freemen’s Guild, Apprentice of the Year Awards.

Elleisha Stinton, from Radford in Coventry, has been nominated for the Endeavour Award. It recognises the apprentice judges consider has overcome obstacles and gone the extra mile to help others at work.

Elleisha said: “I was a bit shocked to be shortlisted. I feel when it comes to work that I just get on with it. “I really love working for Whitefriars, no two days are the same. This is the first job I’ve had where I feel like I can work my way up in the business.”

The 19-year-old began her career with Whitefriars when she joined Coventry Boot Camp organised by Whitefriars Housing, Orbit Heart of England and Midland Heart. Coventry Boot Camp is aimed at getting young people who are not in work or training, the skills and work experience they need to progress. It has helped more than 100 young people to find work or get back into education.

After successfully completing the two week boot camp programme, Elleisha then embarked on a four week unpaid trial with Whitefriars Housing whilst holding down a part time job.  After securing her apprenticeship, she subsequently moved into a full time role with the social landlord as a Customer Service Assistant at their Riley Square office.

Lynne Portlock, Service Development Manager at Whitefriars who nominated Elleisha for the award said: “Elleisha is a very professional young woman who sets high standards for herself in excess of any expectations. When she started work with us as an apprentice, she quickly became a great asset to the team and continues to be so.

“Coventry Boot Camp gave Elleisha the opportunity to learn that she has all of the qualities and talent within herself to achieve a very successful and productive future.”

Since moving to her new full time role, Elleisha has continued to work on completing her academic apprenticeship qualifications.  She is currently completing her NVQ in Customer Service.

The best apprentices in Coventry will be rewarded for their efforts at a ceremony in St Mary’s Guildhall, Bayley Lane, Coventry on 20th January.
