Lifesaving defibrillators to be installed in all of our offices

Lifesaving defibrillators will be installed in all our offices.

The devices can be used by anyone to help to save someone’s life if they have a cardiac arrest.

A defibrillator delivers an electric shock to the heart and is an essential part of first aid for someone who is suffering cardiac arrest.

The Zoll AED 3 devices were purchased after a concern was raised at one of our health and safety committees and our Strategic Health and Safety Committee made a decision to order one for each of our seven offices.

According to the British Heart Foundation there are more than 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK every year and less than one in ten people survive to be discharged from hospital.

CPR is an essential lifesaving tool but early use of a defibrillator can increase a person’s chance of survival from just 9% with just CPR to as much as 75%.

Sanjay Dhir, our interim Head of Health and Safety, and Shelley Murphy, our Head of Facilities (pictured) took delivery of the devices this week. They will now be distributed around our offices.

Sanjay said: “The wellbeing of everyone who works in our organisation is our number one priority and we are really pleased to be able to install these lifesaving devices at all of our office locations.

“Defibrillators can be used by anyone to save someone’s life in the event of a cardiac arrest. You cannot harm a person with a defibrillator but you could save their life.

“We hope that we never have to use the devices, but having them could make a massive difference in the event of an emergency.

“This shows the value and importance of our health and safety committee structure – concerns were raised, these were listened to and action has been taken within what is really quite a short time period.”

The defibrillators talk and show the person administering first aid through each stage of using the device in a sound and visual display.

Though you don’t need training to use a defibrillator we will be hosting some familiarisation training sessions with Zoll, the defibrillator provider, and details of this will be on iTrent soon.

Posters detailing the locations of the defibrillators in each office will be placed on our health and safety notice boards and we will update on this in a future story on Oneplace.
