Staff at a leading Midland housing provider gathered to celebrate their achievements after completing a year-long programme of training with Warwickshire College Group to boost their skills.
Colleagues from Homeworks – the trades team which carries out day-to-day repairs for Coventry-based Whitefriars Housing, which is part of WM Housing Group – were presented with certificates at a ceremony on Wednesday (23rd May).
A total of 63 employees undertook training of up to 25 days each in a variety of skills including plastering, plumbing, tiling, kitchen fitting, painting and decorating, bricklaying, electric showers, solar panels and scaffolding.
During their hands-on practical training at Rugby College, some of the team recently met Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey when he visited to see its workshops and discuss with local businesses the current challenges in the construction industry.
Glen Williams, Assistant Director of Homeworks, said: “Training was designed to enhance the skills of our team across a variety of different trades, increasing their range of skills outside their core specialisms.
“As well as the resulting benefits for Homeworks employees, the team as a whole and our customers, this programme of staff development also underlines our commitment to playing our part in combating the national construction skills shortage.
“I would like to congratulate all the members of our team for their dedication to improving and widening their skills by completing these courses.”
Certificates were presented by Steve Kirk, Director of Homeworks, during the event at Rugby College, which is part of Warwickshire College Group (WCG).
Mark Bonham, Vice-Principal for Engineering and Construction at WCG, said: “We were delighted to be chosen by WM Housing to deliver this bespoke training package to upskill their workforce, in order to meet demand to service our local communities.
“Over the last year their staff have attended Rugby College to receive training in over 25 bespoke modules designed to provide them with the skills and knowledge to deliver a more rounded service for their customers.
“This has clearly had a positive impact on the team and productivity, and the results are evident. It’s great to see all their hard work and effort recognised in this ceremony today.”
