Construction has begun on a new development of affordable homes in Coventry as part of a £10 million regeneration scheme.
There will be 14 homes for sale at Mulberry Gardens, in Canley, Coventry. The shared ownership properties can be purchased for as little as a 35% share for a 3 bedroom property, and 40% for a 2 bedroom property, to assist customers on to the housing ladder, who are unable to purchase a privately owned property outright.
Due for build completion in September 2017, the homes comprise of six three-bedroom and eight two-bedroom properties, being a mixture of terraced and semi detached properties.
They are to be built within a wider development of affordable homes by Whitefriars Housing as part of the ongoing regeneration of the Canley area.
This is the first Whitefriars scheme in Coventry that will include a mix of homes for shared ownership, affordable rent and private sale.
Work on the wider scheme, which has been supported by a £2 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency, is expected to be completed by summer 2018.
Annette Baskett, Sales Director, said: “We are pleased to be starting work on our shared ownership homes at Mulberry Gardens.
“This scheme will offer a step up onto the property ladder for people who may be struggling to raise the deposit or mortgage to buy a house outright.
“These homes are a key element of our wider investment in transforming the Canley area and part of our ongoing commitment to providing more affordable homes in and around Coventry.”
Whitefriars Housing, part of leading Midlands housing provider WM Housing Group, will manage the homes for shared ownership.
