New director of development steps up housebuilding plans

One of the Midlands’ largest housing providers has appointed a new development director to lead its expanding housebuilding programme.

WM Housing Group has recently recruited Richard Whittaker as its Director of Development.

He will head up the Group’s plans to increase its development programme from 300 to 500 new-build homes a year.

Richard has hit the ground running, already exploring innovative new ways to deliver quality, energy efficient, sustainable homes in the most cost-effective and efficient way.

A strong crusader of resident engagement, he is also keen to create employment, training and work experience opportunities for customers through the Group’s construction plans.

Richard joins WM Housing from Nottingham City Homes, where he worked for five years and led its new-build programme as Head of Development.

He previously worked in the private sector as Partnering Manager at Lovell Partnerships, after his early career as Investment Manager at Sheffield Homes.

Richard, who grew up in a Sheffield council home, believes passionately in the role social housing can play in making a real difference to people’s lives.

He said: “I have been made fantastically welcome by the WM Housing team and it is a great time to join them.

“I knew they had a good reputation for delivery, doing what they say they will, and I had heard about their ambition and drive – so I couldn’t help but want to be part of that.

“We are now accelerating our housebuilding plans to help meet the country’s pressing need for affordable homes.

“This is an exciting opportunity, as I very much share the Group’s commitment to building homes that people are proud to live in, and I am looking forward to finding new ways to achieve that.”
