30-year- old Selena Ellis is a communities project co-ordinator, for Birmingham based Family Housing Association and Optima Community Association.
The mum of three was featured in 24 Housing’s list of Young Leaders 2015 dedicated to up and coming housing professionals under 30 years old.
Ian Hill, director of strategy, performance and communications at WM Housing Group who nominated Ms Ellis for the award said: “Selena is a role model for other young black women and any parent looking to forge a career in this sector.
“Her reputation is based on her commitment, competence and the ability to juggle the responsibilities of work with her responsibilities of three young children.
“Selena has successfully managed a number of our contracts including our award winning Green Doctors programme. She is focused, organised, reliable and driven.”
Now in its fifth year, the competition has rapidly grown in popularity since its inception in 2011, becoming one of the most talked about and prestigious events in the housing calendar.
Jon Pendrill, director at Maxmedia, which sponsored this year’s Young Leaders Award, said: “Over the past four years there have been some truly amazing people recognised as inspiring young leaders, demonstrating what a brilliant sector social housing is to work in.
“Across the UK they are making a huge difference to so many lives in our communities and neighbourhoods.”
