Today in Community Impact Week – work experience to job security

Earlier this year we developed a voluntary work experience programme with Job Centre Plus to help people gain the confidence and skills they need to find work.

As the programme has been such a success we are now expanding it across the Group with 20 placements to be delivered at Whitefriars through our ConnectMe programme and other opportunities at Family Optima and West Mercia Homes.

This is how work experience helped two residents find work

Hyacinth

Family Optima resident, Hyacinth Reid, was one of the first participants on the scheme. She heard about our opportunities while she was on a training programme with Family Optima’s Community team and went on to complete an eight week voluntary placement within our Facilities team. This went really well and Hyacinth managed to get a temporary three month contract. After that Hyacinth then had the confidence to apply for the position permanently and is now a successful member of the team.

Deniss

Deniss Zolotarjovs moved into one of our properties in Coventry in December 2016 with his wife and two children. He had been out of work for a long time but was very keen to find a job and provide security for his family. He decided to undertake a six week work experience programme within our Whitefriars GreenWorks team. During this time Deniss enjoyed learning new skills, showed great commitment and a willingness to work. As a result he gained more confidence and was successful in securing the job permanently.
