WM Housing has welcomed a Government announcement which will protect people living in our supported housing.
The Government announced today that it has scrapped its plans to cap benefits for supported housing tenants and fund schemes through a new funding arrangement.
Instead all supported housing residents will continue to have their housing costs paid through housing benefit.
That means long-term certainty for our customers living in our supported housing schemes across the West Midlands – including our sheltered schemes, our homeless hostel and our foyers.
Kate Still, our Chief Operating Officer, said: “The decision to continue to fund short-term supported housing through our welfare system is very welcome.
“For us, and for councils and housing providers around the country, it means we have certainty that we can continue to invest in this crucial type of accommodation.
“Most importantly, it means the people who need supported accommodation will continue to be able to access the help and support they need.
“We know from the work that we do with people with a range of different needs in our supported housing just how important that is.”
